Pink: from fashion to furniture

The start of the pink era

It would seem it all began in 2014; Wes Anderson’s Grand Budapest Hotel was on the big screen and we were all hit by an unexpected wave of pink. Like all great artists, Anderson was ahead of his time. In 2016, Rose Quartz was the Pantone “Color of the Year” and from that point on it has been pink-mania. Pink became a real obsession, so much so that there was talk of a “Pink Renaissance”.

A generation in pink

From the catwalk to music videos, right through to design, pink became so omnipresent that it got given a special name: Millennial pink. It had become more than just a fashionable shade; it was the symbol of an entire generation that wanted to take on life with the due composure and good humour, overcoming the tired, old-fashioned gender stereotypes like ‘pink is a girl’s colour’.

The non-colour colour

For decades confined to women’s fashion as a romantic and cutesy colour, pink broke out of the mould and became a complex, universal shade. Androgynous and on the edge, distinguished and sharp: it encapsulates many different tones yet does not identify with any one in particular. This is why The Times labelled it “the non-colour colour”. It survived 2017 unharmed and now, well into 2018, it does not seem to be waning. On any front.

I believe in pink!

Audrey Hepburn once said. And we feel the same: in interior design, this colour has relentlessly won over spaces. Alone, it is capable of completely changing the mood of any room. This is why a touch of pink had to feature in the Dandy collection, chic and sophisticated by definition.

Santalucia Mobili’s pink choice fell to the sideboard: a highly traditional piece of furniture, reinterpreted with Dandy’s structural perfectionism and added to with Cipria pink on the drawers. The nuance has a slightly retro but super-trendy feel, and can be finished off with matching accessories. A character piece of furniture like this one can transform the living room into an exclusive, personalised space, perfect for style enthusiasts. Are you ready to dare to pink?
